OLYMPIC GAMES RÍO DE JANEIRO 2016
 
It was an international multi-sport event, held in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, between 5th ans 21th August 2016 ;  although the group stage of the soccer tournament began on August 3rd in the women's section and on the 4th of August in the men's section. The XV Paralympic Games were also held in the same city, between 7th and 18th September of the same year. 11,551 athletes from 206 national Olympic committees participated in this edition of the Olympic Games.
The competitions were held in 33 sports centers in four neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro and in five stadiums. The Olympic torch was lit at the temple of Hera in Olympia 21th April 2016. After touring several places in Greece the torch arrived 27th April at the Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens. Later, the torch visited the Swiss cities of Geneva and Lausanne before leaving for Brazil. The Brazilian part of the tour began 3rd May in Brasilia, the capital of the country. After visiting 329 towns across the country, the torch arrives in Rio de Janeiro. More than 12,000 relievers took the torch traveling more than 22,000 kilometers.
 
ABOUT THE SHOW :
 
The mythical Maracana Stadium was the scene of the opening of the XXXI Games. Nature, a traveling companion of Brazil throughout its history, as well as the melting pot of cultures that formed Brazilian society throughout history, centered a show designed by Fernando Meirelles.
The music and the dance had a special role with 'Aquele Abraco' by Gilberto Gil, the interpretation of the national anthem by the samba player Paulinho da Viola, 'La Chica de Ipanema', the traditional melody performed by Daniel Jobim, with Zeca Pagodinho and Marcelo Peixoto, and the rap of MC Soffia and Karol Conka and capoeira. The final leg of the ceremony before the parade of athletes, Rio 2016, recalled the threat that the planet is experiencing with a global warming that showed its consequences in the main capitals of the world. The legacy Rio wants is that of commitment to nature. Therefore, each athlete who entered the great parade of the Games deposited a seed to fight against deforestation and create a garden and Olympic forest in the area of ​​Deodoro. Gisele Bündchen made an appearance as 'The Girl of Ipanema', the traditional melody played by Daniel Jobim. The music and dance did not leave the ceremony, with Zeca Pagodinho and Marcelo Peixoto, and the rap of MC Soffia and Karol Conka and capoeira. 'Tropical Country' marked the rhythm of 1500 dancers, in almost as many other outfits.
